Vision for DisDos
To make an impact on others, you have to first make an impact on yourself. You have to love yourself. You have to be confident. You have to be like a tiger. My undergrad at Quinnipiac University taught me to be fearless. I was not sure of the reasons I would be engaging in an activity sometimes or completing a task, but I remembered what my mother told me: knowledge never goes to waste. Working as a Resident Assistant, environmental sustainability representative, peer educator in English, social media manager of Men's Who Invest, etc., as a Biomedical Sciences major, I learned the significance of an all-rounded education. The power of knowing how to solve problems efficiently and being able to connect with others across different platforms boosts one's set of skills and widens one's network incredibly. You can reach different audiences and pursue unique pathways with a mix of various of your interests. With a focus on one area of expertise and the hunger to expand your work with features of other areas of disciplines, you can impact people from different backgrounds. With DisDos, I hope to be able to impact others with the message that knowledge is gold when applied effectively to make a positive difference on global communities. Be curious. Stay humble. Love yourself. Global citizenship. Forever confident.
Hello
My name is Yamna Siddiqui
I am a responsible research scientist at Yale, medical assistant, community builder, event planner, and quadrilingual woman from Niger and Pakistan with top-notch skills in conducting biomedical research projects from start to finish. I host regionwide and local conferences and deliver professional research presentations internationally and nationally. I also am an organized, passionate, and a hard worker who is experienced in solving problems efficiently, interacting with patients in various medical departments and both international and U.S. settings, and building inclusive communities with extensive interdisciplinary volunteer and paid services and initiatives. Currently, I am a first-year medical student at St. George's University School of Medicine. I graduated from Quinnipiac University in Spring 2023 as an Honors student with Summa Cum Laude, a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences, and minors in Immunology/Microbiology, Global Public Health, Women's and Gender Studies, Biology, and Chemistry.
One of my favorite hobbies is spending late nights with family and friends discussing the wonders of medicine and research; going through photos of university and family events repeatedly; talking about new food recipes; listening and singing along to songs from different countries; and visiting new places! I felt like I was in a movie when I traveled to Costa Rica where I enjoyed whitewater rafting, surfing, hiking mountains, touring jungles, eating tropical fruits, jumping into the ocean, standing underneath beautiful waterfalls and rainbows, and much more! I hope to continue to spend more meaningful time with my family and friends and meet more people to develop lifelong relationships. I am so grateful for the evergreen support of my family, my mentors, and everyone I have worked with. I am excited for my next chapter in life, and I hope to work as a selfless and excellent doctor and physician-scientist in the United Nations who runs a lab and a business while combining multiple disciplines to impact global communities.
