Purpose of DisDos 2024
Uniting medical & healthcare advocates across nations
Networking, medical specialties, cultural diversity, research, patient approach
DisDos 2024 focuses on mentorship for medical students as well as providing opportunities for networking to medical students who are planning to start clinical rotations or applying for residencies in the US. DisDos 2024 is a student-led hybrid medical conference (in-person component: St. George’s University in Grenada) that unites medical students who are interested in internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology/obstetrics, primary care, neurology, and psychiatry including learning about the lifestyle of a doctor, clinical research projects, personal stories, and inside advice from doctors in each field. We are welcoming both US and non-US medical students or IMGs to present and/or attend the conference.
By understanding the work requirements and environment in which doctors work across different medical fields, students can make well-informed decisions of which field they would like to pursue and how to professionally collaborate with people from different medical fields. Students can also feel empowered to make their own career decisions after having conversed and asked questions to doctors and their senior colleagues in different medical fields, especially information about personal stories and experiences which they cannot find by simply searching online. IMGs can also gain a sense of community and support by talking with other international doctors and senior colleagues who have worked hard to establish a medical career in the US after coming from a non-US background.
The conference organization is run by students from SGU along with the collaboration of those from Yale and Quinnipiac University in the U.S. The goal of the presentations also includes that students engage with the scientific community and learn about various research studies, balancing research with clinical practice, different fields of medical specialties in one conference, experiences of other people in medicine, ERAS application process, tips on USMLE and other medical exam preparations etc. We also would like to celebrate cultural diversity in medicine and bring in doctors and medical students across various hospitals and institutions as well as connect different medical programs together.

Message from Co-Founder and
Co-President Yamna Siddiqui
and Taha Siddiqui
DisDos truly is a golden experience dear to my heart as it was a dream come true. Since my first year of undergraduate, I wanted to create a platform that would unite people by supporting them in sharing their talents and skills with each other and acquiring useful resources in a timely manner. When I was reflecting after the DisDos 2023 conference and reviewing attendees' feedback, I was overwhelmed by the love and encouragement they provided me of appreciating the "friendly environment," "community," "networking," and "learning experience." I felt so touched that the emotions I had invested into DisDos were amplifying like a domino effect. I was committed on continuing to strive so DisDos is not just another science organization but a family filled with caring, honest, hardworking, and curious members.
What I really hope medical students can get out of DisDos 2024 is to get an opportunity to network with people who have more experience and knowledge on different residency programs such as with residency program representatives, alumni, etc. I hope that students can get a strong grasp on different residency specialties as well as tips on USMLE preparations and the ERAS application process by talking to knowledgeable people in the medical fields that are in high demand based on student feedback at my medical school, St. George’s University (SGU). In addition, early exposure to perspectives and life lessons of professional doctors will be beneficial to young medical students and medical advocates across different stages. New paths can be created by networking with clinical doctors, physician scientists, and other leaders in the medical community. Multi-institutional, multi-regional, multi-cultural, and multidimensional conference will assist medical students to become the best versions of themselves as medically-aware, culturally competent, interpersonally sharp, communicative, and independent doctors and humanitarian medical leaders.
I would like to give a huge shout out and express my deepest appreciation to everyone who has helped out in planning for DisDos 2024 as well as to all the speakers of whose presentations I am very excited to listen. Without the support and hard work of all of these people, the planning of DisDos 2024 would not have been possible. Lastly, and certainly not the least, I am extremely enthusiastic about the audience members and am looking forward to a fantastic DisDos 2024 experience with everyone
