Who is Dr. Lozo?
Svjetlana Lozo MD MPH is Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University Medical Center. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Maimonides Medical Center in 2013. Following residency, she completed Global Health fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital as well as a Master’s in Public Health at Harvard University. During global health fellowship her research centered on access to surgery in low resource settings, surgical education, and perineal trauma.
As a passionate learner, she proceeded to compete fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive surgery at University of Chicago/Northshore Health system. Currently her research centers on surgical education and access to care in low resource settings.

Title: Mentee to Mentor : Lessons Learned Along the Way
Abstract:
Mentorship is an important aspect of both personal and professional development in medical education. In this presentation we will review tools for successful mentorship as well as discuss practical aspects that can help improve one's professional and personal development.
Objectives:
1. Review mentor-mentee relationship
2. Review opportunities available to medical students, especially IMG
3. Review variety of medical training opportunities and journeys
Brief story
Dr. Svjetlana Lozo, MD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. She earned her MPH from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and completed a Global Health Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Lozo further specialized through a Urogynecology and Female Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at the University of Chicago.
With a passion for global women's health, Dr. Lozo has been actively involved in Freedom for Fistula programs in East Africa and is currently working with the program's center in Madagascar. During her fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, she collaborated closely with local governments and hospital systems to address women's health challenges, including maternal mortality, cervical cancer screenings, and management of obstetrical emergencies.
Dr. Lozo's career focuses on improving surgical education in low and middle-income countries and developing programs that enhance women's health globally. She currently co-chairs the Fellowship Development Committee at the International Urogynecology Association, aiming to help countries without specialty urogynecology training establish these crucial programs. To support this work, Dr. Lozo has completed extensive educational trainings in surgical coaching and mentoring.
Recognizing the importance of healthcare across the lifespan, Dr. Lozo is also an active member of the Geriatrics Working Group in the Consortium of Universities for Global Health. In this role, she collaborates with numerous providers to better address the care and well-being of the aging population worldwide, bridging her expertise in women's health with geriatric care.
